Nightboat Books
ABOUT
Nightboat Books is a nonprofit literary press founded in 2004 by poets Kazim Ali and Jennifer Chapis, taking its name from a Hart Crane fragment. Based in Brooklyn and long associated with publisher/editor Stephen Motika, the press has built its reputation on poetry, hybrid and intergenre work, and archival recovery projects, publishing writers who work at formal and political edges: Etel Adnan, Fanny Howe, Bhanu Kapil, Renee Gladman, and, per its current catalog, queer and trans writers and lineages, including reissued diaries, journals, and collected poems by figures like Lou Sullivan, Bambi Lake, and Red Jordan Arobateau alongside new work from poets such as Valerie Hsiung, Stine An, and Jay Gao. The press runs an editorial fellowship program (recent fellow: Terrance Hudson) and positions itself explicitly as a nonprofit mission to develop audiences for writers who 'resist convention and transcends boundaries.'
