Copper Canyon Press

Copper Canyon Press was founded in 1972 in Port Townsend, Washington, and has spent five decades proving a nonprofit can be the most important poetry publisher in America. Its list includes W.S. Merwin, Ted Kooser (Delights & Shadows won the Pulitzer under its imprint), Ocean Vuong's Night Sky with Exit Wounds, and the definitive American editions of Neruda.

The press reads unsolicited manuscripts during announced open periods (with a reading fee that funds the operation), and its books are distributed nationally — a Copper Canyon spine on a bookstore shelf is often the only poetry a general reader encounters. The pressmark, a Chinese character for poetry, is among the most recognized colophons in publishing.
