Whale Road Review
ABOUT
Whale Road Review is an online literary journal founded in 2015 by Katie Manning, who remains its editor-in-chief a decade on. It publishes poetry and short prose (with an emphasis on brevity — short poems and micro-essays), and has distinguished itself with an unusually generous editorial apparatus for a small online magazine: each quarterly-ish issue also includes a "Teachers' Lounge" of pedagogy papers, book reviews, and author interviews, drawing on a rotating cast of contributing reviewers and interviewers. The journal has built a loyal community feel, marking milestones with AWP offsite readings (co-sponsored with journals like SWWIM, MER, and Perugia Press) and anniversary Zoom celebrations, and it encourages readers to directly tip contributors via per-author "Tip the Author" links rather than paying standard rates itself.
