AGNI

AGNI was founded in 1972 by Askold Melnyczuk, first as a scrappy independent journal, and has been housed at Boston University since 1987. Under Melnyczuk and later editors including Sven Birkerts and William Pierce, it built a reputation as one of the most internationally minded American journals, publishing Seamus Heaney, Derek Walcott, and Ha Jin alongside emerging U.S. writers — it published work by several writers years before their Nobel or Pulitzer recognition.

AGNI publishes two print issues a year plus a steady stream of AGNI Online work, pays contributors, and reads during an annual window (traditionally September through May). It is a standing member of the "top tier" that working poets track.
