University of Iowa journal publishing three issues a year. Pays contributors.
The Iowa Review was founded in 1970 at the University of Iowa, drawing naturally on the gravitational field of the Writers' Workshop; its early issues published Ashbery, Bishop, Carver, and Cheever, and its masthead has always been staffed partly by Workshop graduate students.
It reads in the fall (typically September through November), pays $1.50 per line of poetry ($40 minimum) plus copies, and runs the Iowa Review Awards each spring with outside judges. The journal also administers the Tim McGinnis Award for work of "irreverent humor" — a rare institutional sense of play.
