The Adroit Journal
Online journal with a strong youth mentorship program; a launching pad for early-career poets.
Peter LaBerge founded The Adroit Journal in 2010 — while a high-school sophomore — and it grew from a teenage passion project into one of the most respected online journals in the country, publishing Ocean Vuong, Kaveh Akbar, and Hanif Abdurraqib early. Its masthead remains unusually young, and its aesthetic favors urgent, image-forward lyric.
Adroit's summer mentorship program pairs teenage writers with established poets and has become a feeder for the field's next generation; the Adroit Prizes for Poetry and Prose honor student writers annually. Submissions are free during reading periods, which fill fast; the journal reads blind and responds in one to four months.
