ABOUT
Syracuse University's MFA in Creative Writing is one of the oldest and most selective programs in the country, housed in the English Department within the College of Arts and Sciences. It has built its reputation on a small, fully funded three-year cohort model — longer than the typical two-year MFA — giving writers extra time to draft a book-length thesis while teaching undergraduate composition. Faculty over the decades have included Raymond Carver, Tobias Wolff, Mary Karr, George Saunders, and Mary Gaitskill, and the program's alumni network is frequently cited among the most successful of any MFA in terms of subsequent trade publishing deals.
