Sonora Review

ABOUT

Sonora Review is the literary magazine of the University of Arizona's MFA program, in continuous publication since 1980. It has built a decades-long reputation as a training ground for young editors — the masthead turns over as new cohorts of MFA students take the reins — while also serving as a launching pad and venue for emerging poets and prose writers alongside more established names. The magazine runs print issues alongside an active 'Sonora Online' arm, and for its 2026 edition has been running a themed 'Memory Contest' with prizes and runner-up slots across poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, a format consistent with its history of running periodic themed contests to generate content and draw new submitters.
