Rattle

Rattle was founded in 1995 and is edited by Timothy Green, who has run it since 2004 as a publication of the nonprofit Rattle Foundation. Its stated conviction — that poetry should be accessible to general readers, not just other poets — shows in everything from its famous contributor notes (first-person stories of why each poet writes) to Poets Respond, which publishes a poem about the week's news every Sunday.

Submissions are open year-round, always free, with $200 per poem in print (plus a subscription) and $100 per poem online. All free submissions are considered for the $2,000 Neil Postman Award for Metaphor; the annual Rattle Poetry Prize awards $15,000. Rattle explicitly refuses previously curated work and AI-generated poems. One of the largest audiences in poetry: its daily email and YouTube critique series reach far beyond the MFA world.
