ABOUT
Image was founded in 1989 by Gregory Wolfe as a journal devoted to art, literature, and religious faith, publishing poetry, fiction, essays, and visual art that engage seriously with belief without didacticism or easy answers. Over more than three decades it has built a reputation as the leading venue for work at the intersection of contemporary art and the sacred, running interviews and portfolios alongside literary work — past and present contributors include figures like Li-Young Lee, Lawrence Joseph, and George Saunders — and it has expanded into public programming, including retreats and gatherings such as 'The Glen.' The magazine is produced by a nonprofit organization that also runs reading groups and a weekly newsletter, ImageUpdate, reinforcing its identity as a community hub as much as a print quarterly.
