The Agnes Lynch Starrett Poetry Prize is University of Pittsburgh Press's annual award for a poet's first full-length collection, named for Agnes Lynch Starrett, the press's founding director. Since its inception, the prize has served as the entry point into the Pitt Poetry Series, one of the longest-running and most respected poetry lists in American publishing, home over the decades to writers such as Larry Levis, Etheridge Knight, and dozens of contemporary voices whose backlist titles the press continues to reissue and promote. Winning the Starrett Prize means the manuscript is published under the Pitt Poetry Series imprint, placing a debut author alongside an established roster of mid-career and senior poets rather than in a stand-alone contest series.
